I'm a big fan of language learning and have fooled around with Duolingo in the past (and started again this week as I looked at the stock), and have some experience with building freemium/subscription content models from my time at Seeking Alpha. The company has a popular language learning app, and a growing subscription/freemium content business model.
This overlaps with both the Buffett and the Lynch ideas, but without the fixed starting or end points that some investors take from those ideas.ĭuolingo ( NASDAQ: DUOL) is the second IPO in recent months that is directly in my circle of interest, after Airbnb ( ABNB). I think you are more likely to do this by looking at markets that you understand. The idea is basically that to earn more than index-level returns, you need to identify something that the market is misunderstanding and that might change over time. It's not quite Warren Buffett's circle of competence concept, and it's also not quite Peter Lynch's 'invest in what you know', though it should overlap with both.
